Levels of the ISEE
Primary Level
For students entering grades 2-4
Sections of ISEE Primary Level:
Auditory Comprehension – Students listen to a passage and answer questions.
Reading – Basic comprehension and vocabulary
Mathematics – Basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, and number sense.
Writing Sample – A short picture-based writing prompt (not scored but reviewed by schools)
Lower Level
For students entering grades 5-6
Sections of ISEE Lower Level:
Verbal Reasoning – Synonyms and sentence completions (test vocabulary and reasoning)
Quantitative Reasoning – Word problems and basic math logic (not just computation)
Reading Comprehension – Passages followed by multiple-choice questions
Math Achievement – More direct math problems (e.g. arithmetic, basic geometry)
Essay – One writing prompt (not scored but reviewed by schools)
Middle Level
For students entering grades 7-8
